Privacy Policy

TL;DR
MonCut runs entirely on your Mac. We do not collect, store, or transmit your recordings, transcripts, projects, or any personal data. There are no accounts, no servers, no telemetry, no third-party SDKs.
MonCut is a macOS app you install from the Mac App Store. Once installed, it runs entirely on your Mac. There is no server you sign in to, no cloud where your data is uploaded, and no analytics or telemetry phoning home. We can't see what you record. We don't want to.
What stays on your device
Your recordings, projects, transcripts, and edits all live in ~/Movies/MonCut/ on your Mac. They never leave.
Recordings, edited projects, generated transcripts, exported videos, and cached metadata all live in ~/Movies/MonCut/ on your local filesystem. MonCut reads from and writes to that folder via macOS-sandboxed file access. We have no copy of any of it. If you delete that folder, your data is gone — there is no backup we maintain.
What we do not collect, transmit, or share
We do not run any cloud transcription, crash reporting, analytics, telemetry, or third-party SDKs.
MonCut does not call any cloud API. Transcription is performed locally by Apple's SpeechAnalyzer framework (macOS 26+). We do not integrate Sentry, Firebase, Crashlytics, Mixpanel, PostHog, Datadog, or any third-party SDK. We do not run an auto-update framework that pings our servers. We do not track usage. We do not have a license validation server. The app's PrivacyInfo.xcprivacy declares NSPrivacyTracking: false.
Permissions we request
Screen recording, microphone, camera (optional), speech recognition (local), accessibility (for keyboard overlay). Each is used only for its declared purpose, on-device.
Screen recording (NSScreenCaptureUsageDescription) — required to capture your screen. Microphone (NSMicrophoneUsageDescription) — for narration audio. Camera (NSCameraUsageDescription) — optional facecam overlay. Speech recognition (NSSpeechRecognitionUsageDescription) — used by Apple's local SpeechAnalyzer for captions; no audio leaves your Mac. Accessibility (input monitoring) — required ONLY for the keyboard overlay feature, which captures keystrokes locally to render an on-screen keystroke visualization. We do not log or transmit any keystrokes.
